SPF, which means Sender Policy Framework, is an email security system, that is employed to verify if an e-mail message is sent by an authorized server. Using SPF protection for a given domain will prevent the faking of email addresses made with the domain. In simple words: enabling this attribute for a domain name generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP of the servers which are allowed to send e-mail messages from mail boxes under the domain. The moment this record propagates worldwide, it will exist on all the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Any time an e-mail message is sent, the initial DNS server it uses checks whether it comes from an authorized server. When it does, it's sent to the destination address, but when it does not come from a server indexed in the SPF record for the domain, it's discarded. In this way nobody will be able to mask an email address and make it appear as if you are e-mailing spam messages. This method is also termed email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Hosting

If you host your domain names in a shared hosting account on our end and we manage the e-mail addresses for them, you are able to activate SPF protection for them with a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. This service is available in a section of its own where you are able to see which domains are already secured. For those that aren't, you can activate the SPF protection option and manage a variety of things in the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, and even to set a rule that messages can be sent only when your domain names use our MX records. The aforementioned option is the most secure one, and you can use it when we manage the e-mails for your domain names and you are not using some other email supplier. The new records will propagate within one day and nobody will be able to forge the FROM field in an e-mail by using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you host your domain names in a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you are able to benefit from the SPF protection feature as a part of the standard group of services that you will have using this kind of website hosting. Starting the protection will require only a few simple steps inside the Hepsia Control Panel, so that even if you haven't employed this type of feature before, you won't have any issues. Through a really time and effort saving interface, you'll just have to type in the info of the mail server that will be authorized to send messages from your e-mail addresses - its hostname (mail.server.com) and IP address (IPv4 or IPv6). As soon as the recently generated record propagates, no one will be able to fake any email for that particular domain name and send e-mails from a server different from the one you've typed in. This does not necessarily have to be our mail server, still when we handle your emails, you are able to enable one more level of protection by choosing an option that e-mail messages can be send out from addresses @your-domain.com only in case the domain uses our MX records. Our tech support crew will be able to help you 24/7 if you have any questions about this service.
